Aster Shortlisted for The Caterer’s Menu of the Year 2018 @astervictoria

Aster, the Nordic-French inspired restaurant in new foodie hub, Nova Victoria, has been shortlisted for The Caterer’s Menu of the Year 2018 which will be announced at next year’s Catey Awards in May. Executive chef, Helena Puolakka, originally from the south-west coast of Finland, creates Nordic cuisine taken from her Finnish heritage complemented by classic French techniques refined over her career.

Helena’s upbringing has had a direct impact on her cooking, bringing the uncomplicated and distinct flavours of Scandinavia together with the traditional skills of her French training. This can be seen across all the menus; restaurant, cafe and deli, in dishes such as squid with smoked reindeer and ink and arctic char with Greenland prawns and aubergine caiar.

Aster was featured in The Caterer’s menuwatch feature between May and July 2017 and has been selected from that list to make it into the shortlist category. Judged on a number of aspects including innovation, good use of seasonal produce and creativity, with Helena’s use of bold flavours from the rugged landscapes of Norway combined with authentic cooking techniques from the beautiful rustic charm of France’s rolling hills, it’s no wonder Aster has been shortlisted for this award.
